Accepta's high performance Coliform and E.Coli tests (Presence / Absence) are ideal for engineers, water treatment professionals; and building services and facilities management specialists.
Testing for Coliforms and E.Coli using Accepta's innovative MUG test is quick and easy.
This is a simple but reliable technique which uses a dry medium to enable the rapid confirmed enumeration of both total coliforms and E.coli.
- Tests results achieved after 24 or 48 hour incubation period
- Ideal for water treatment and facilities engineers
- Simple, accurate and easy to use
- Detection limit of 10 CFU/ml
The media turns blue-green in the presence of coliform bacteria (as illustrated in the above photo). E.coli growth is confirmed by blue fluorescence under UV light or using a Kovacs reagent.
The sample should be incubated for 24 hours at 35oC or 48 hours at 25oC. After the 24 hour or 48 hour incubation time observe the colour of the sample.
- CLEAR/YELLOW = NEGATIVE for Coliforms
- BLUE/GREEN = POSITIVE for Coliforms
Shine a UV light (approx 365nm) from the bottom of the sample while avoiding looking directly at the light.
- NO FLUORESCENCE = NEGATIVE for E.Coli
- BLUE FLUORESCENCE = POSITIVE for E.Coli
If further confirmation of E.Coli is desired add 1ml of Kovac’sIndole reagent (sold separately) to the sample, recap the bottle and wait 30 seconds. A RED ring will form if E.Coli is present.
If results are positive add bleach to the sample before pouring down the toilet.
