Control of Legionella: UK Government Audit Proforma

Following several requests prompted by last months article, How to Investigate an Outbreak of Legionella, we've now obtained permission from Her Majesty's Stationary Office to make available to our readers and users of accepta.com their excellent Control of Legionella Audit Proforma.

The document is an audit sheet used by the UK's Health and Safety Executive and Local Authority Enforcement Officers and is designed to assist in the control of cooling systems which incorporate cooling towers or evaporative condensers to assess their level of compliance with the requirements of the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 1999 and the (revised) Approved Code of Practice (ACoP) — ‘Legionnaires’ disease: the control of Legionella bacteria in water. It is not a risk assessment, but is designed to be an audit to assess the adequacy of the existing assessment and to highlight areas where further action is necessary.

To receive your copy of the full audit document please email Accepta or call us on + 44 (0) 1625 267 581.

Biocide Tablets for Air Conditioning Systems

Accepta's excellent biocide tablets consist of a slow dissolving biocide in a handy tablet form, specially developed to control slime forming bacteria and other biological growths in air conditioning condensate pans and ducted systems.

Air conditioning is utilised in many buildings throughout the world to ensure the provision of pleasant, healthy working environments.

One important area of the air handling system often forgotten until problems occur is the condensate collection pan associated with small de-humidification units.

Stagnant condensate, accumulating in the pan, provides an ideal habitat for various bacteria, which multiply rapidly forming odorous biological slimes. As growth continues drain lines become blocked and the resulting overflow can cause considerable damage to the structure and furnishings, apart from the obvious inconvenience to staff and guests.

Accepta's biocide tablets are used as part of a planned maintenance programme within industrial, commercial and medical establishments, hotels, public and private buildings that utilise air handling units. Its broad biological biocidal action ensures condensate pans remain clean and drains clear.

Accepta biocide tablets provide:

  • Extended protection - tablets are slow dissolving giving extended protection to the system, up to 6 months.
  • Reduced maintenance - Accepta tablets keep drains clear minimising shut down time.
  • Freedom from biological contamination - removing unpleasant odours and reducing potential health risks.
  • Environmental protection - drains remain clear, overflow is prevented and excessive damage to the structural fabric and furnishings is avoided.
  • Ease of use - 2 gram tablets packaged to allow minimum handling and simplicity of dosage.

General specification;

  • Appearance: off white tablet
  • Weight; 2g
  • Tablet size: 16mm x 9mm
  • Non-flammable
  • Packed in tubs of 100.

Ultraviolet Leak Detection for the Oil & Gas Industries

Accepta's Ultraviolet (UV) leak detector tracer dye is an innovative, optically sensitive tracer compound used in the oil, gas and petrochemical industries for leak detection and pressure testing operations in fresh or seawater environments. It offers significant advantages over existing 'visible' dye-based fluorescent leak tracer systems:

  • Invisible to the human eye under normal white light conditions. Accepta 3554 is only visible using specially tuned UV light.
  • Lower toxicity than traditional tracer dyes, reducing 'in use' Health and Safety concerns and the negative impact on local marine life.
  • No unsightly staining of seawater, rivers, watercourses etc. normally associated with the more traditional brightly coloured dyestuffs.
  • Tested and compatible with Aquatracker UV emission/fluorescence instruments.
  • Compatible with many Accepta biocides and oxygen scavengers.

Where to use Accepta 3554

Accepta's UV tracer dye is used for leak detection and pressure testing operations involving fresh or seawater. Because Accepta 3554 is readily traceable using UV light it offers considerable advantage over many of the more familiar fluorescent leak test tracers in that it is undetectable to the human eye without a tuned UV lamp, whilst being strongly fluorescent under tuned UV light. Unsightly, highly visible discharged test solutions can therefore be avoided.
