Influenza A & B Test Kit including Avian Influenza

Avian Influenza - Accepta’s innovative influenza test kit is an immunochromatographic test for the presence of both influenza A (including influenza A H5N1, avian influenza) and influenza B virus. The kit can be used for the detection of influenza in swabs or nasopharyngeal secretions (washings or aspirates).

Benefits

Accepta's influenza test kits offer a number of significant benefits which include:

    • Fast – obtain results in 15 minutes.
    • Accurate, easy to interpret results.
    • Simple to use.
    • Cost effective.
    • Single sample analysis.
    • Each kit is self contained, with nothing else required to perform the test.

Influenza A+B - Background

Influenza is a highly contagious viral infection of the upper respiratory tract that is characterised by the antigen variability, the seasonality and the impact on the general population.

Of the two main (A and B) types of influenza viruses, Influenza A subtypes are differentiated by antigen variability of the surface glycoproteins hemagglutinin (H, 15 subtypes) and neuraminidase (N, 9 subtypes). Influenza A is the most prevalent and is associated with the most serious epidemics, its subtypes are classified by H and N antigen types. H1N1, H2N2, H3N2 and H5N1 are the primary influenza A subtypes known to have caused disease in humans since 1918.

Influenza B virus usually causes a minor illness, but it does have the potential to cause more severe disease in older persons. The inability to provide lasting protection to humans against influenza B virus infection is due, in part, to antigenic drifts to the viral surface glycoprotein, haemagglutinin (HA).
